JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has appointed Deputy Director Medardo de Lemos as officer-in-charge of the National Bureau of Investigation.
De Lemos replaced Eric Distor, who served as OIC since February 2020 after the bureau’s erstwhile director, Dante Gierran, was named as PhilHealth president and chief executive officer.
De Lemos was appointed last July 1, a day after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared vacant various posts in the Executive department.
Remulla’s order said De Lemos is the “next-in-rank and most senior official” of the NBI.
“The OIC shall perform and discharge the duties and responsibilities of the office until 31 July 2022 or until a replacement has been appointed or designated whichever comes first,” it said.
De Lemos is a veteran NBI official, having served the agency since 1985. He also served as its assistant director for the past 12 years.
