WITH less than a week before the May 9 local and national elections, the Department of Education yesterday sternly warned teachers and non-teaching staff not to engage in electioneering and partisan political activities.
“We call on our DepEd officials and personnel to uphold political neutrality in the government service and to be professional in the discharge of their duties,” the DepEd said in a statement yesterday.
“Failure of any DepEd official or personnel to comply with the existing rules of DepEd, Comelec and the Civil Service Commission shall be subjected to necessary administrative actions,” the DepEd added.
Aside from its own rules, teachers and non-teaching staff who will engage in partisan political activities may also face sanctions from the CSC as well as the poll body, the department added.
Among the prohibited acts under the DepEd order issued in 2018 are forming groups that campaign for or against a candidate, publishing materials that express support or opposition to a candidate, and attending political meetings and caucuses, among others.
