The Department of Education will conduct a dry run of “Distance Learning Classes” today, Monday, in public elementary and secondary schools in Navotas.

Education Undersecretary Alain Pascua said 21 public elementary and secondary schools will participate in the dry run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Classes in all levels in public schools are set to start on August 24.

He added this includes the Special Education (SPED) classes and Alternative Learning System (ALS).

He said DepEd Navotas will adopt the blended learning approach, among the other learning modalities to be used for the coming school year, which is a combination of printed module and online distance learning, due to the health crisis brought about the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Blended Distance Learning” is one of the modalities under the DepEd’s Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) for the school year 2020-2021

A recent survey by the department showed there were 3.9 million parents across the country who wanted the blended learning approach.

Last June 30 to July 3, DepEd conducted a pilot simulation for distance learning in three schools in Navotas, namely, Bagumbayan Elementary School, Dagat-dagatan Elementary School, and Navotas national High School.
