INCOMING Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara yesterday said the reins of the agency would be turned over to him by Vice President Sara Duterte this Thursday (July 18).
Angara told radio dzBB that he would assume the post the next day after taking his oath of office.
He said days before the turnover, he already had a chance to talk with the department’s undersecretaries and assistant secretaries, asking them what would be expected of him since the opening of the school year 2024-2025 is just around the corner.
He said he would also take the opportunity to seek guidance from Duterte after the turnover ceremonies since he was not able to talk to the Vice President who was in Cebu recently to attend an official function of the DepEd.
Angara said several undersecretaries and assistant secretaries have tendered their resignations but refused to comment on it since he has not yet seen their resignation papers.
He said once he sees the resignation papers, it will be the right time to appoint their respective replacements.
“That’s why I will not make any comment on that issue, what positions will be vacant and who resigned because they are all still hearsay as I have not yet seen the documents. So, I’ll wait to see the documents,” he added.
Duterte resigned as DepEd secretary and as vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict effective July 19. She did not give a reason for her resignation.
