THE Department of Education is readying intervention measures to take into account the fewer number of school days once the traditional school calendar returns in the school year 2024-2025.

DepEd Assistant Secretary and deputy spokesperson Francis Cesar Bringas said the measures are being prepared by the Teaching and Curriculum Strand of the department.

Bringas said there will only be 165 school days, or 15 days fewer than the “historically 180 school days,” if the school year 2024-2025 is to end in March.

“We will have to cope with the possible non-covering of some competencies and that is being addressed by our teaching and curriculum strand. While it is important that we have 180 school days, this has to be covered if we will reduce this,” Bringas told the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon forum.

“We will be employing several intervention measures,” he added.

Bringas reiterated that DepEd is committed to reverting to the old or original school calendar where classes start in June and end in March.

“In our letter to the Office of the President regarding DepEd’s proposal for reversion to the June-March school year, we already stated that we commit to abide by the president’s decision on the matter,” Bringas said.

Last Monday, President Marcos Jr. said he wants the old school calendar to return as early as next school year to avoid the cancellation of classes due to the extreme heat.

The school year 2024-2025 in public schools was earlier set to start on July 29, 2024 and end on May 16, 2025.
