THE Department of Education yesterday warned the public not to fall prey to fake posts claiming the department would provide “pang baon” to Grade 1 and 6 learners.

“Parents and guardians are strongly advised not to give out their children’s school information and identification to these kinds of hideous posts so as not to compromise their security,’ the DepEd said in an advisory.

“The DepEd reminds everyone to stay vigilant against misinformation,” it added.

It also called on the public to report any misleading and suspicious information about basic education to the DepEd Action Center at depedactioncenter@deped.gov.ph.

The fake posts said Grades 1 and 2 learners will receive P1,000 to P2,000 monthly, P2,500 to P3,000 for Grades 3 and 4, while those in Grades 5 and 6 will get P4,000 to P5,000.

The post asked parents and guardians to provide their children’s school identification cards until March 30, 2024.

In another advisory, the DepEd warned schools and the public against individuals who are misrepresenting themselves as DepEd personnel or those from the Office of the Vice President tasked to allegedly monitor the progress of school building construction.

“The Department of Education warns schools and the public about deceitful individuals falsely representing themselves as authorized personnel of the Office of the Vice President or the Vice President and DepEd Secretary to conduct monitoring activities on behalf of the Department,” the DepEd said in an advisory.

It added that those individuals “have no affiliation with the Office of the Vice President or any DepEd program, specifically the School Building Program.”

The department said the inspection of school building projects is managed and coordinated through the School Infrastructure and Facilities Strand.

“Therefore, no individuals, contractors, or organizations, including government agencies, are permitted to conduct such activities unless officially recognized and endorsed by SIF,” the DepEd added.

It called on school officials and the public to report encounters with such individuals to the Office of the DepEd Secretary at osec@deped.gov.ph.
