THE Department of Education on Sunday said local government units (LGUs) can shoulder part of the expenses for the production of modular self learning materials to be used for school year 2020-2021.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said the central office is allocating fund for this, adding this may be downloaded to regional offices soon. She added, however, that this may not cover the needs of the entire country and that LGUs can shoulder some other expenses.
“The real property tax which is a national tax collected by the LGUs on behalf of the national government, a part of that will go to their special education fund, and it is exclusively devoted to education,” she explained.
She said the LGUs can purchase reproduction machine, adding this can be done at the level of the schools and regions.
“What we are preparing is merely for first quarter and the subsequent quarter will come on rolling bases due to fund available in central office,” she added.
