THE Department of Education (DepEd) is eyeing to hold full face-to-face classes by November this year, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said yesterday.
Marcos, in his first press conference as chief executive, said Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte reported that the DepEd’s plan is to have “phased” face-to-face classes by September and full in-person classes by November.
“We have a plan for full face-to-face by November of this year. (By) September, we will start a phased face-to-face schooling. And that face-to-face will end in early November as already 100 percent — 100 percent attendance ng mga bata (We have a plan for full face-to-face by November of this year. In September we will start a phased face-to-face schooling. And that face-to-face will end in early November as already 100 percent — 100 percent attendance of children),” he said.
Marcos said in preparation for the resumption of full face-to-face classes, there are expected issues that will be raised and need to be resolved, such as the vaccination of students.
As of end June, more than 3.2 million children aged five to 11 years old have been fully vaccinated while more than 9.5 million 12 to 18 years old are fully vaccinated.
The DepEd, which oversees the basic education system or the education from kindergarten to grade 12, earlier said that more than 38,000 schools are ready for face-to-face classes when school year 2022—2023 begins in August.
