THE Department of Health yesterday said the number of dengue cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been increasing .
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said from January to June 18 this year, 3,975 dengue cases were reported in Metro Manila.
“Cumulatively, cases this year are one percent higher compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021 which is 3,945,” she said.
Quezon City recorded the highest number of cases, with 729 cases or 18 percent of the total 3,975.
Caloocan City registered the second highest number of cases with 502, followed by Manila with 501, Taguig City with 472, and 444 in Valenzuela City.
Vergeire said from May 22 to June 18 when 844 cases were registered, Quezon City also topped the list of local government units in Metro Manila with the highest number of cases, with 192, followed by Caloocan City with 170, Taguig City with 100, Valenzuela City with 83, and 64 in Malabon City.
“We are also seeing a 16 percent increase in the number of dengue cases in the recent period of May 22 to June 4, 2022, with 533 cases compared to 458 cases reported two weeks prior or from May 8 to 2021,” Vergeire said.
She said the Department of Health registered 13 deaths due to dengue in the NCR from February this year.
Of the 13 deaths, Vergeire said, four were recorded in February, two each in March, April and June and three in May.
Manila has started to conduct fogging operations in parts of the city to kill mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus.
