THE total number of dengue cases for the year has breached the 400,000 mark even as the Department of Health (DOH) reported that new cases are already on a downswing.
Based on the latest Dengue Surveillance Report, there are already 402,694 cases reported from January 1 to November 16 this year. This is 92 percent higher than the 209,335 dengue cases recorded during the same period last year.
The number of deaths also went up from 1,075 last year to 1,502 this year.
Based on the report, Calabarzon was found to have the most number of cases with 68,158; followed by Western Visayas with 57,212; National Capital Region with 36,790; and Central Luzon with 33,511.
Deaths caused by dengue were also highest in Western Visayas (229), followed by Calabarzon (206), National Capital Region (175), and Central Visayas (134).
Regions that exceeded the epidemic threshold set by the DOH included the Mimaropa, Bicol region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Those that exceeded the alert threshold included the Calabarzon, Western Visayas, and the National Capital Region.
The health department declared a national dengue epidemic in August 6 due to the rise in the number of cases.
But since the entry of the “amihan” season, the DOH said they have already seen the number of new dengue cases going down.
