ONE hundred thirty-five more lost their battle against the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as the toll breached the 42K mark while there were 4,393 new infections yesterday, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 42,077 Filipinos for a case fatality rate of 1.52 while infections in the country rose to 2,765,672.
The positivity rate in the country stood at 8.5 percent out of the 35,265 tests conducted last October 24.
Active cases dropped to 53,642 from 57,763 last Monday, with 74.8 percent mild cases, 10.3 percent moderate cases, 6.7 percent asymptomatic cases, 5.8 percent severe cases, and 2.4 percent critical cases.
The DOH also reported 8,470 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,669,953. This means that 96.5 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
The number of overseas Filipinos infected with the deadly virus continued to climb with 101 more new cases, while three more succumbed to the virus the previous week, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The new cases brought to 23,569 the total number of overseas Filipinos infected with the virus, while the death toll climbed to 1,398.
There were 102 new recoveries, bringing to 13,833 the total number of foreign-based Filipinos who have recovered. — With Ashzel Hachero
