Death toll up to 23,928

FROM just 60 last Tuesday, deaths from the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) jumped to 119 yesterday while new cases also climbed to 4,353 from 3,666, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 23,928, just 72 short of 24,000, for a case fatality rate of 1.74 while the number of infections in the country climbed to 1,372,232.

The new cases do not include figures from six laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last June 21.

Active cases dipped to 49,862 from 52,696 last Tuesday, with 90.4 percent mild cases, 4.5 percent asymptomatic cases, 2.1 percent severe cases, 1.5 percent critical cases, and 1.4 percent moderate cases. Active cases account for 3.6 percent of COVID infections in the country.

There were 7,139 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,298,442. The DOH said this means that 94.6 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
