FORMER senator Leila de Lima, who was recently released on bail for her last remaining drug case, has been designated as the official spokesperson of the Liberal Party, party president Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman said yesterday.

Lagman said De Lima was chosen to be the LP’s spokesman during the meeting of the party’s Management Committee on December 4.

“De Lima, who has been a long-standing member of the Liberal Party, committed to resume her active role in advocating and enhancing the party’s advocacy on good governance, social justice and liberalism,” Lagman said.

The former senator from Bicol has also been previously appointed as the party’s vice president for policy, platform, and advocacy.

The former senator, however, has yet to reveal her future political plans pending thorough consultation with allies and her family.

In 2021, the Muntinlupa regional trial court junked one of the three cases filed by the Duterte administration against De Lima. A year later, she was also acquitted of a second drug charge.

On November 13, the court allowed De Lima to post bail in her remaining drug case, almost seven years since she was detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
