Danao tells cops: Be extra careful

PNP officer-in-charge Vicente Danao Jr. yesterday told policemen to be extra careful following last Saturday’s ambush staged by New People’s Army rebels in Samar that left a policeman engaged in a humanitarian mission dead.

During the flag-raising rites in Camp Crame, Danao said it was “disheartening” the rebels ambushed policemen distributing goods “to our poorest of the poor kababayans (countrymen).”

Danao, visibly angered by the incident, stopped short of cursing at the rebels as denounced the attack.

“Why would you ambush our people providing assistance there?” he said.

Danao also implied he is against peace negotiations with the communists, citing the NPA’s latest human rights violation.

“You are now talking about talks. What kind of peace talks is that?” he said.

NPA rebels ambushed a group of policemen at the boundary of San Jose de Buan and Gandara towns last Saturday morning during a humanitarian mission, killing Patrolman Mark Monge.

“To our policemen, please take extra care when you are outside while doing whatever activity,” said Danao.
