AFTER two weeks of decline, the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases reported daily over the past seven days went up by seven percent, the Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday.
Based on the DOH weekly case bulletin, there was an average of 2,188 cases daily for the period of October 10 to 16, or a total 15,314 COVID-19 cases.
“This is 7 percent higher than cases reported from October 3 to 9,” said the DOH, adding that it was during the September 19 to 25 period when the average daily cases last went up.
The health department reported four additional severe and critical cases during the past week and 251 deaths.
There are 690 severe and critical cases in the country, as of October 16. Of this number, the report showed that 625 of them are occupying ICU beds, which account for 25 percent of the 2,504 total nationwide.
On the other hand, there are 5,697 patients who are occupying COVID-19 beds, or 26.8 percent of the 21,281 total COVID-19 beds allocated nationwide.
