Crewman of Chinese ship dies of heart attack — PCG

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated last Sunday a crew member of a Chinese-flagged bulk carrier off La Union who experienced heart attack symptoms and later died.

In a statement, the PCG said the crew member was a master of MV Guo Hai Lian 98.

“According to the crew, the Chinese master experienced symptoms of myocardial infarction (colloquially known as heart attack),” the PCG said.

It said the Coast Guard Station in La Union coordinated with the Bureau of Quarantine and the Chinese vessel’s local agent “for immediate medical assistance.

“Upon arrival, the medical evacuation team conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation and disembarked the patient,” the PCG said, adding the patient was promptly brought to the La Union Medical Diagnostic Center and Hospital in San Fernando, La Union.

However, the patient was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, the PCG said.
