SIXTY-TWO more deaths due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, raising the number of fatalities to 7,039.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said there were 1,607 new cases and 371,630 infections overall.
The case fatality rate in the country is 1.89 percent, the DOH said.
Davao City had 90 new cases, followed by Cavite (88), Rizal (74), Negros Occidental (68), and Quezon (68).
There were 245 new recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has risen to 328,258.
This means that 88.3 percent of COVID-19 patients recovered.
The Department of Foreign Affairs reported four new confirmed COVID-19 cases yesterday among overseas Filipinos.
This brought to 11,203 the total number of overseas Filipinos who have contracted the deadly virus. The DFA said 7,248 have survived.
No new fatality was reported by the country’s embassies and consulates, the DFA added.
The bulk of the cases and deaths among overseas Filipinos due to the virus came from the Middle East and Africa with 7,376 and 532, respectively.
The Asia and the Pacific reported 1,793 cases and 9 deaths while Europe registered 1, 218 cases and 95 deaths.
Though it reported only 816 cases, the Americas had a far higher death toll compared to Asia and the Pacific and Europe as it reported 179 deaths.
Meanwhile, more than 230,000 overseas Filipinos have been repatriated amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the DFA said.
The DFA said as of October 25, a total of 231, 026 Filipinos have been repatriated since February this year, 154,957 of them land-based workers and 76,069 sea-based workers.
The number includes 7,732 brought home last week, 6,344 of them coming from the Middle East.
Of the 6,344, the DFA said 5, 622 came from Saudi Arabia and the rest from the United Arab Emirates.
“There were also 312 stranded Agro studies students who were repatriated from Israel last October 21 and 24,” the DFA said, adding the repatriation flight was arranged by the country’s embassy in Tel Aviv and the MASHAV aid agency of Israel.
Also repatriated last week were 851 Filipinos from Asia and the Pacific, 534 from Europe and three from the United States.
“Medical repatriations from Texas USA and Brisbane, Australia were also successfully conducted amid the challenges brought by the pandemic,” the DFA added.
The DFA said repatriation flights will continue as it called on Filipinos who want to be repatriated to inform the Philippine embassies or consulates in their areas. — With Ashzel Hachero
