THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported 356 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the second straight week that daily infections have been at less than 1,000.
The DOH said the figure showed a positivity rate of 1.4 percent out of the 24,360 tests conducted last December 5. The total number of Filipinos who have been diagnosed of COVID-19 since it hit the country last year now stands at 2,835,345.
Among the confirmed cases, the DOH said 92 have died, bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 49,591, or a case fatality rate of 1.75 percent.
On the other hand, the health department said 871 COVID-19 patients have newly recovered, which brought the total number of survivors to 2,772,728, for a recovery rate of 97.8 percent.
Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said there remains 13,026 active COVID-19 cases in the country, or 0.5 percent of the COVID-19 cases in nationwide.
Of the active cases, 5,314 are mild cases, 3,900 are moderate cases, 2,326 are severe cases, 899 are asymptomatic cases, and 587 are critical cases.
