THE average number of daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country continues to climb and is now nearing the 200-mark, the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday.

The DOH said the latest COVID-19 case bulletin showed an average of 181 cases daily, or 1,264 cases, for the period of October 2 to 8, which is three percent higher than cases reported from September 25 to October 1.

There were 12 additional severe and critical cases during the past week, and six deaths.

The DOH said the Omicron XBB subvariant and its sublineages continue to dominate in the country.

In its latest COVID-19 bio-surveillance report, the DOH said that genome sequencing done between September 18 and October 3, 10 out of the 11 samples were classified as XBB. — Gerard Naval
