COVID cases drop to 984

THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported 984 new cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, marking the first time it happened in a week’s time.

The last time the DOH reported less than 1,000 cases was in November 16, when 849 new cases were reported.

The positivity rate of the country is at 2.8 percent out of the 35,901 tests conducted last November 20.

With the new figures, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported nationwide is now at 2,826,853.

Among the confirmed cases, the DOH said there were 218 new deaths, pushing the total number of deaths due to coronavirus to 47,288, and the case fatality rate at 1.67.

On the other hand, the DOH reported 2,229 COVID-19 patients have newly recovered, bringing the number of total COVID-19 survivors to 2,759,767, for a recovery rate of 97.6 percent.

Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said there remains 19,798 active COVID-19 cases in the country.

The active cases account for 0.7 percent of the COVID-19 cases nationwide.

Of the active cases, 56.6 percent are mild cases, 20 percent are moderate cases, 13.3 percent are severe cases, 5.6 percent are critical cases, and 4.6 percent are asymptomatic cases.
