FROM 1,427 last Monday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases dropped to 1,019 yesterday, the fifth straight day that new infections went down south and now on the brink of going under 1,000.
In its latest bulletin, the Department of Health said the total number of new cases in the country climbed to 3,654,284 while the death toll rose to 55,776, counting the 13 more deaths reported, for a case fatality rate of 1.53 percent.
COVID cases in the country started dropping last Friday to 2,232, then 1,923 last Saturday, and 1,712 last Sunday.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 6.4 percent among the 18,177 tested samples on February 20.
Active cases also continued to go down, from 58,657 last Monday to 56,668 yesterday, with over 51,000 mild cases and more than 2,800 moderate cases.
The health department also reported 2,988 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,541,840 for a recovery rate of 96.9 percent.
