COVID cases climb

THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported an increase in the average number of daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines when compared to the previous week.

Based on the latest COVID-19 case bulletin, the DOH said there is an average of 166 cases daily, or 1,164 cases, for the period of September 18 to 24,

“This is 13 percent higher than cases reported from September 11 to 17,” said the DOH.

There were 10 additional severe and critical cases during the past week.

On the other hand, 11 deaths were reported.

The DOH said that there are currently 260 severe and critical cases in the country, as of September 24. Of the total severe and critical cases, the report showed that 189 of them are occupying ICU beds, or 13.2 percent of the 1,432 total nationwide.

On the other hand, there are 2,211 patients occupying COVID-19 beds, or 16.8 percent of the 13,180 total beds allocated nationwide.
