THREE days into the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and four other areas, the Department of Health reported 3,561 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
In its Thursday bulletin, the DOH said 2,041 of the new cases came from the National Capital Region (NCR), with Laguna having (222), Cebu (221), Cavite (100), and Rizal (81).
The total number of cases in the Philippines rose to 119,460 with 28 more deaths that raised the number of fatalities to 2,150.
The new deaths were from NCR (11 or 39%), Central Visayas (9 or 32%), Davao Region (2 or 7%), Zamboanga Peninsula (2 or 7%), Calabarzon (1 or 4%), Western Visayas (1 or 4%), Northern Mindanao (1 or 4%), and 1 (1 or 4%) case had an unspecified region.
Of the 28 deaths, 10 (36%) happened in August, 16 (57%) in July, 1 (4%) in June, and 1 (4%) in May.
The DOH said there were 569 new recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has risen to 66,837.
Globally, as of August 5, there were 18,354,342 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 696,147 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
Sixty-five more overseas Filipinos were added to the growing list of those infected with COVID-19, bringing the number to 9, 692 in 72 countries, while seven more succumbed to the virus.
The additional cases were recorded in the Asia Pacific, Europe as well as in the Middle East and African regions.
The seven new deaths in Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East and Africa brought the death toll among the overseas Filipino community to 702. Seven more also from the virus, bringing the number of recoveries to 5,737, while 3,253 remained under treatment.
In terms of cases, the Middle East and African regions retained the largest number of cases with 6,824 followed by Europe with 1,131, Asia Pacific with 975 and the Americas with 762.
In terms of fatalities, the Middle East and African regions also reported the highest number of deaths among overseas Filipinos with 425, followed by the Americas with 175, Europe with 95, and the Asia Pacific with 7. — With Ashzel Hachero
