THE camp of model Deniece Cornejo yesterday asked a Taguig court to order the transfer of comedian and television host Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro from the NBI detention center to the Taguig City jail.
In a three-page manifestation to Taguig RTC Branch 69 Judge Loralie Cruz-Datahan, Cornejo said Navarro should be detained at the Taguig City jail based on procedure and after his motion challenging the filing of the rape and acts of lasciviousness charges was junked by the Court of Appeals. Navarro has detained at the NBI since the Taguig RTC issued a warrant for his arrest over the rape case filed by Cornejo.
A warrant was also issued by the Taguig City Metropolitan Trial
Navarro’s camp earlier expressed concern for his safety if he would be transferred to the Taguig City jail.
“It is respectfully prayed that the instant manifestation with urgent motion be resolved urgently, and that the Honorable Court issue an order directing the proper officer of the National Bureau of Investigation Detention Center to immediately transfer the accused from the National Bureau of Investigation Detention Center to Taguig City Jail,” Cornejo said.
“The denial of the motion for reconsideration of the accused in the Court of Appeals allows for the full and proper execution of the warrant of arrest,” she added.
Under the Rules of Court, Cornejo argued that a person ordered arrested by the court must be brought to the nearest police station or jail “without unnecessary delay” and not to the NBI detention center.
She cited as an example the arrest and detention in a police jail of actor Dindo Arroyo, who was nabbed by the police in Laguna last Sept.21 due to cyberlibel.
