AN Iloilo policeman was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly stealing the motorcycle of a barangay captain in Pototan town in Iloilo, police reported yesterday.
The Western Visayas regional police office identified the cop as Corporal Darrel Dumaraog, assigned with the PNP Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 6 based in Calinog, Iloilo.
Dumaraog was nabbed at around 4 p.m. in Barangay Jibolo in Janiuay town, also in Iloilo, during a hot pursuit operation conducted by personnel of the Pototan police station and RMB 6.
Last Wednesday morning, a motorcycle owned by Nicky Pescuela, barangay chairman of Barangay Lopez Jaena Ward in Pototan, was stolen while he was jogging.
Pescuela said he saw the suspect driving his motorcycle but could not identify him.
Police investigators later identified the suspect as Dumaraog based on closed circuit television footage and accounts of witnesses, prompting the conduct of the hot pursuit operation that led to his arrest.
In a statement, the Western Visayas regional police office said the arrest of Dumaraog “is a clear example that the law is unselective in application.” It said this also shows that the PNP is implementing the law “with impartiality.”
