A QUEZON City policeman who indiscriminately fired his firearm in Marikina City a few days ago surrendered to his superior officer last Saturday night.
The Quezon City Police District identified named the cop as Corporal Felipe Pauig, 32, assigned with the QCPD’s District Tactical Motorized Unit, and a resident of Barangay Tumana in Marikina City.
Pauig surrendered at around 9:40 p.m. to his superior officer, Lt. Col. Reynaldo Vitto, and turned over his service firearm, at the QCPD headquarters at Camp Karingal, Quezon City.
Pauig was subsequently placed under the QCPD’s restrictive custody and will face a criminal case of alarm and scandal. He is also facing administrative investigation, which may lead to possible suspension and discharge from the service.
QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III assured the public that the QCPD will not tolerate the wrongdoing of Pauig, which he said put the image of the PNP in a bad light.
“It’s good that he surrendered and did not wait to be cornered,” said Torres, adding the action of Pauig does not represent the entire police force.
He also asked the public to report erring policemen, regardless of their rank, so they can be investigated and dismissed from the service.
Reports said Pauig, Jail Officer 1 Dolfino Gatan and security guard Jestony Pauig Jr. were having a drinking spree in Barangay Tumana, Marikina last Thursday night when they allegedly took turns in indiscriminately firing Gatan’s 9 mm pistol. No one was reported killed or injured in the incident.
The Marikina City police station filed alarm and scandal raps against the three last Friday. This prompted Torre to order a manhunt operation against the erring QCPD policeman.
Gatan had earlier surrendered to his superiors, along with his firearm, and will also face administrative investigation.
