PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar has approved the dismissal from service of a member of the PNP General Hospital, who was been arrested twice for asking money from police applicants for their supposed seamless entry into the police organization.
Eleazar identified the cop as Staff Sgt. Joel Zalun Bunagan, an ambulance driver, whose separation from the service took effect last Monday, June 14.
Eleazar said Bunagan was first arrested in Barangay Kaligayahan in Novaliches, Quezon City in April last year for the same offense. He was charged with violation of Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Act of 2018, and of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. He got out on bail.
Despite the cases he was facing, Bunagan repeated the same offense and was arrested anew by members of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group in an entrapment operation in Barangay 175, Camarin, Caloocan City last May 31 after he demanded P100,00 from a police applicant supposedly in exchange for facilitating his entry into the PNP.
Eleazar warned the likes of Bunagan and other PNP personnel involved in illegal activities that he would not stop until they are all removed from the organization.
“I will not stop until you are all out of the PNP. Aside from the criminal cases, I’ll make sure that you are all dismissed from the service,” he said.
