A POLICE lieutenant colonel was arrested for illegally discharging his firearm at a Quezon City bar early morning yesterday.

The Quezon City Police District named the suspect as Lt. Col. Mark Julio Abong, 40, assigned with the PNP Legal Service at the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame.

Abong, previously assigned as chief of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit at Camp Karingal, was relieved from the QCDD after figuring in a hit-and-run case that led to the death of a tricycle driver in August last year.

He was ordered dismissed from the service by the QC Law Enforcement Group last March due to the incident.

Police said Abong went to the Ralyoz Bar in Barangay Laging Handa in Quezon City at 1 a.m. yesterday and demanded to see the bar manager. He later grabbed a waiter by his necktie.

Abong, armed with a handgun, then went outside the bar and had an argument with one of the customers.

“Unexpectedly, Lt. Col. Abong discharged his firearm two times in short intervals and pointed the same at one of his companions,” the QCPD said in a statement.

Responding members of the QCPD Station 10 arrested Abong, who yielded a Glock 40 pistol and ammunition.
