OPERATIVES of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group arrested on Wednesday a cop from the Norzagaray town police station in Bulacan for extortion, it was reported yesterday.
IMEG chief Brig Gen. Ronald Lee identified the cop as S/Sgt. Jonathan Dela Cruz, an intelligence officer of the Norzagaray PNP.
Lee said the Dela Cruz was nabbed by IMEG operatives, augmented by Bulacan PNP and PNP Special Action Force, at around 5:30 p.m. inside the Norzagaray police station during an entrapment operation.
The operation was conducted after IMEG received information that Dela Cruz demanded P10,000 from a suspected drug peddler, who was arrested during an anti-drug operation last August 26, for the release of his motorcycle.
“The motorcycle being used by the (drug) suspect was found to be not included in the inventory of items they confiscated during a drug operation last August 26. It was learned that the accused (policeman) took custody of the motorbike and demanded P10,000 for its release,” said Lee.
