Cop killed in buy-bust awarded PNP Merit Medal

PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa on Saturday visited the wake of Staff/Sgt.Michael Cayambas Cabillo, a member of the Pililia Municipal Police Station in Rizal who was killed in an anti-illegal drugs operations last Friday.

Gamboa presented the Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP Merit Medal) to Cabillo’s wife and ordered the immediate release of benefits due the fallen cop’s family, including all financial assistance from the PNP and the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc. (PSMBFI).

Staff/Sgt. Lazaro Guinao-wa and Pat. Paul Santos, who were wounded in the same operation, were also visited by Gamboa at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame and awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (PNP Wounded Personnel Award). They were also given P20,000 cash assistance from PSMBFI.

Operatives of the Pililia Municipal Police Station-Drug Enforcement Team conducted a buy-bust operation at Aida’s Farm in Barangay Bagumbayan, Pililia where Cabillo acted as the poseur-buyer. Neser Valsorable Tena, who sold a plastic sachet of shabu to Cabillo, sensed he was transacting with a police officer and shot Cabillo.

While fleeing, Tena fired at the chasing operatives and wounded Guinao-wa and Santos.

Tena later entered his apartment and took hostage nine children. Negotiations lasted for almost an hour before responding troops killed Tena and rescued the hostages. — With Christian Oineza
