NEW People’s Army rebels shot and killed a policeman in Pilar town in Sorsogon last Monday night, an attack that the police described as “inhumane and unacceptable.”

The Bicol regional police office identified the slain policeman as Executive Master Sergeant Israel Rebosura, who is assigned with the Pilar police station.

Reports said Rebosura was on his way back to the Pilar police station when he was attacked by several rebels in Purok 2, Sitio Cagduyong, Barangay Ginablan at around 6 p.m.

Police said Rebosura visited his house being constructed in the area when the heavily-armed rebels appeared and shot him.

Rebosura managed to return fire but was outnumbered.

“This inhumane and unacceptable act is a vivid proof of the true color of the rebel group which endangers and deprives lives of innocent individuals who selflessly offer themselves in the name of public service,” the Bicol regional police office said in a statement.

It said the attack also “clearly manifests the disdain and negligence of the NPA on the true value of peace and order.”

Bicol regional police director Brig. Gen. Rudolf Dimas extended his condolences to the family of Rebosura and vowed to give them justice.

“We are saddened and lament the demise of our brother in service. We cannot tolerate these kinds of acts,” said Dimas.

He assured the public that the PNP, in collaboration with the AFP, will exert all efforts “to go after these lawless elements and serve justice to the victim.”
