A POLICEMAN died while another was injured in a shootout with a barangay tanod and other armed men in Sominot town in Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday afternoon, police reported yesterday.
The fatality was identified Staff Sergeant Khalid Jade Dacula while Staff Sergeant Ronald Managbang was wounded. They are assigned with the intelligence unit of the Zamboanga del Sur provincial police office.
The Zamboanga Peninsula regional police office said four suspects were arrested in follow-up operations, one of them a barangay tanod who was injured in the shootout.
Police intelligence personnel led by Dacula were dispatched on Tuesday to monitor motorcycle-riding men reported roaming the roads of Barangays New Carmen and New Oroquieta, both in Sominot town.
At around 3:30 p.m., the policemen were fired upon by the four suspects in Barangay New Oroquieta, leading to a shootout that resulted in the death of Dacula and wounding of Managbang. The suspects took the 9 mm pistol of Dacula.
