Comelec to reprint 1.8M BSKE ballots

CLOSE to two million official ballots to be used in the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are being reprinted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said yesterday.

Laudiangco the exact number of official ballots being reprinted at the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City is 1,778,917, which is broken down 1,317,483 for barangay and 461,434 for SK.

Having the most ballots to be reprinted are Maguindanao del Norte with 497,153 for barangay and 181,030 for SK; and Maguindanao del Sur with 422,629 for barangay and 158,813 for SK.

The Comelec held a plebiscite in Maguindanao in September last year that split the province into two — Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.

Also to be reprinted are the ballots for the 10 new barangays of Taguig City with 228,149 for barangay and 67,716 for SK.

Last June, the Supreme Court ruled that the 10 barangays of Makati City, namely Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Northside, and Southside, are under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.

Replacement ballots will also be printed for the new city of Baliwag in Bulacan, particularly 111,356 for barangay and 35,718 for SK.

In December 2022, Baliwag residents voted to convert the municipality into a component city of Bulacan in a plebiscite conducted by the Comelec.

Lastly, the poll body is reprinting 58,196 for barangay and 18,157 for SK ballots to be used for the new city of Carmona in Cavite.

It was back in July that the Comelec conducted a plebiscite that led to the conversion of Carmona from a municipality to a city.
