Comelec starts printing 2.5M BARMM ballots

PRINTING of the ballots to be used for the automated election system (AES) started yesterday at the National Printing Office (NPO), days after the printing of ballots to be used for manual polls was completed.

In a brief statement, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said printing of the AES ballots for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) totaling 2,588,193 was in full swing.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the printing started with the ballots for Lanao del Sur, which numbers to 685,643 ballots.

Last week, the Comelec said the NPO printing the 60,000 manual ballots for Local Absentee Voting (LAV), followed by the 79,000 manual ballots for Overseas Voting. Also printed were the 86,000 manual ballots for the BARMM.

The Comelec is set to print a total of 67,442,714 official ballots for the forthcoming elections and hopes to complete this on April 21, at the latest.
