TWO plebiscites in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are set to be conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in March and April.
In a statement, the Comelec said it has scheduled the plebiscite in Marawi City on March 9 for the creation of three new barangays.
“The plebiscite for the creation of three new barangays in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur will be conducted on March 9, 2024 pursuant to City Ordinance Nos. 18-11, 19-11, 20-11,” it said.
Under the city ordinances, the three proposed barangays will be called Barangay Sultan Corobong, Barangay Sultan Panoroganan, and Barangay Angoyao.
The three proposed barangays will be taken from existing Barangays of Dulay Proper, Kilala, and Patani, respectively.
On the other hand, the Comelec said it hold a plebiscite in the Special Geographic Area consisting of the 63 barangays of North Cotabato that are part of the BARMM.
“The plebiscite for the ratification of the creation of eight new towns in the BARMM Special Geographic Area will be held on April 13, 2024,” said the poll body. — Gerard Naval
