THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said it would hold a three-day special voter registration for the male population next week in celebration of Fathers’ Day on Sunday.
In an advisory posted on its Facebook page, the Comelec said those who wish to avail of the special registration from June 21 to 23 can go to their local Comelec office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A similar registration was held by the Comelec for women and girls in celebration of the National Women’s Month last March.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez has been calling on qualified voters to register early and not wait for the last minute, or until the last day of registration on September 30, before going to their local Comelec offices.
Jimenez reiterated the voter registration will not be extended.
He hoped that more qualified voters will heed their call as satellite voter registration activities have already been allowed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) amid the continued threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Registration can already be done outside Comelec offices. Many will hopefully get registered because it is more convenient for the people,” Jimenez said.
