APPLICATIONS received in Register Anywhere Project (RAP) booths continue to increase, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday as it reported that the number of voter applicants nearly doubled during the weekend.
Based on data released by the poll body, there were 2,043 applications for voter registration filed in RAP booths from January 14 to 15.
This is higher than the 1,129 applications from January 7 to 8, and the 611 applicants from December 17 to 18, the first weekend when RAP booths were opened.
Seeing the most RAP applicants from January 14 to 15 is SM Fairview with 614, followed by Robinsons Manila with 386, SM Sucat with 284, and Robinsons Galleria with 267.
Applications in other RAP booths also increased, such as in SM Mall of Asia with 254, Robinsons Tacloban with 119, SM City Legazpi with 60, and Robinsons Naga with 59.
Under the scheme, any qualified applicant residing anywhere in the Philippines may register at the RAP booths by submitting their application form, documentary requirements, and have their biometrics taken on-site.
The submitted documents and captured biometrics data are endorsed and transmitted by the recipient RAP teams to the Office of the Election Officer of the district/city/municipality having jurisdiction over the residence of the applicant.
RAP booths will open for the last time in the eight selected malls on January 21 and 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On January 16 and 20 during office hours, RAP booths will be open at the Government Service Insurance System main office in Pasay City.
The Senate of the Philippines in Pasay City and the House of Representatives in Quezon City, meanwhile, are also set to host RAP booths on January 25 and January 25 to 26, respectively, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
