ON the heels of its decision to extend voter registration hours, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said satellite voter registration activities are likely to close at a later time as compared to those held in the Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs).
In a virtual press briefing, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said that “for satellite registration, there is always a possibility that it will be extended beyond what is normally the registration hours.”
He cited as an example those being held in shopping malls, saying some of them have already asked the Comelec to hold the registration activities for a longer time.
“In some cases, the malls are requesting that we conduct registration activities until the closure of the malls,” he said, adding that “depending on the arrangement with the malls, if they consent to having the registration activities while the mall is still open, then that is what we do also.”
On Wednesday, the Comelec announced the extension of voter registration hours in OEOs, while also allowing such activities to be held on Saturdays and during holidays.
