THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is ready to hold the twin plebiscites in Marawi City on Saturday, Elections spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said yesterday.

In a phone interview, Laudiangco said the plebiscites in Barangays Boganga and Sagonsongan in Marawi City are “100 percent ready.”

Comelec chairman George Garcia urged voters in the said barangays to go out and vote.

“There is nothing to be afraid of. Neither guns nor goons can weaken our resolve. Our voices are more resounding than the barrel of a gun. Show the world that we control our destiny. Go out and vote,” said Garcia in a text message.

To recall, the Comelec has set the two plebiscites in Marawi City for the establishment of two additional barangays.

The first plebiscite is in accordance with City Ordinance No. 07-010 Series of 2022, which seeks to create Barangay Boganga II from the mother barangay of Bongaga.

On the other hand, the second plebiscite is based on City Ordinance No. 05-010 Series of 2022, which aims to establish Barangay Datu Dalidigan out of the mother barangay of Sagonsongan.

Data from the Comelec shows there are 1,472 registered voters from the two mother barangays, which include 992 voters in Barangay Bongaga, and 480 voters in Barangay Sagonsongan.
