WITH postponement looming larger by the day, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has adjusted its calendar of activities for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

In a resolution released late afternoon Thursday, the Comelec en Banc ruled to move the period to file the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) to October 22 to 29 from the original date of October 6 to 13.

The poll body also decided to set the new election period from November 6 to December 20. The original election period was set from October 6 to December 12.

Earlier, Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said the poll body is considering adjusting the BSKE calendar of activities due to complications that might occur if the December 5 BSKE polls is postponed.

“The adjustment in the periods is because we do not know yet if the bill is to be approved,” Laudiangco said on Wednesday.

Last Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed on third and final reading the bill moving the BSKE to December 2023.

On the other hand, the counterpart Senate bill on the postponement of the BSKE was passed on second reading.

Meanwhile, the Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE) called on the public to sign the online petition rejecting the postponement of the December 5 exercise.

“LENTE reiterates its position to continue the conduct as scheduled of the BSKE 2022,” it said, adding: “We urge everyone to support our call to push through with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in December 5, 2022.”
