THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said it is looking to make available starting this Friday the additional honoraria to electoral board (EB) members who served for extended hours last May 9.

In a press briefing, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said they are preparing to release the additional honoraria of P2,000 after it was earlier approved by the Commission en Banc.

“Anytime now it will already be released as the resolution approving it has already been signed,” said Garcia.

“I personally believe that by Friday, we can already distribute them,” he said, adding that more than 14,000 poll workers are set to receive the additional honoraria.

Garcia noted there were about 2,038 clustered precincts that encountered delays last May 9 due to faulty vote counting machines and/or SD cards.

“If I am not mistaken, that’s more or less P20 million,” added Garcia.

Earlier, Garcia asked the Commission En Banc to provide additional honoraria to those who served in the May 9 polls, particularly those who were assigned to polling precincts that encountered malfunctioning vote counting machines and SD cards.
