CLASSES were suspended yesterday in four schools in Mulanay, Quezon, including the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)-Mulanay, due to a bomb threat.
No bomb was found at the schools during an inspection conducted by the PNP Explosive and Ordnance Disposal, Mayor Aristotle Aguirre said in a radio interview.
Aguirre announced the suspension of classes last Sunday afternoon at PUP Mulanay, Mulanay Central Elementary School, Sta. Rosa Elementary School and Bondoc Peninsula Agricultural High School due to the bomb threat, which spread through social media.
Aguirre said the PNP Mulanay learned of the threat last Saturday but policemen initially ignored it.
Aguirre said parents and students alarmed by the threat called the attention of the local government and the local police on Sunday. This led to the suspension of classes and the inspection of the schools.
Aguirre said it was necessary to conduct a search at the schools for possible bombs because the lives of students were at stake.
