THE Catholic Church in the Philippines is set to observe on November 29 the annual “Red Wednesday” campaign across the country.
Red Wednesday is an initiative launched in 2015 by the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), a Catholic charity organization that supports suffering and persecuted Christians.
A number of dioceses in the Philippines started joining the global campaign in 2017. In January 2020, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declared “Red Wednesday” as an official church activity in the Philippines.
“ACN Philippines is once again inviting parishes to join the annual observance to commemorate the day of remembrance for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ,” said ACN Philippines administrator Fr. Jaime Marquez.
“If possible, the building faí§ade of the churches, schools, hospitals, houses, and other institutions is to be illuminated and/or decorated in red,” he added.
Marquez said the faithful are also urged to wear red clothing in attending the event. — Gerard Naval
