A pandemic might not exactly be the time to seek stardom. But for 20-year-old Christi Fider, there is no better time, especially because she hopes to spread cheer and bring good vibes through music in this season of sickness and suffering.

The budding recording artist, who is also a vlogger (ChristieV on YouTube) and baker (The Two Weirdoughs), has just released her single, “Teka, Teka, Teka,” composed by award-winning songwriter Joven Tan.

Christi said initially, she thought the song was depressing.

“Akala ko heartbreaking, kasi pandemic is nakaka-depress, pero nung narinig ko, it’s different. It’s easy to listen to and sobrang good vibes. Feeling ko, kaya ko to. Kung hindi sa akin bagay, babagay sa akin,” she said.

Her hesitation about releasing a song during the pandemic was erased. “Very OK sya sa panahon, and kasi ‘yung pandemic plays an important role sa song. yun yung currently na fee-feel mga tao. Hindi tuluyang nagkikita, magkalayo for now. Pero maganda ‘yun line na ‘Sa muling pagkikita may halik at yakap na,’ because it gives us hope na one day, we can do the beso-beso, the hug.”

Christi grew up in a musical household, with her mom managing bands, her bassist dad, and three siblings who all loved listening to songs.

All the kids started carving out their own niche in the corporate world. However, Christi continued her love for music and is now all the more determined to pursue a career in show business after giving up her position in the family’s jewelry business.

In preparation, she has taken voice lessons, acting workshops, and has learned to play the guitar, ukelele and is mastering the kalimba. She has also taken her Mommy Edith’s words of wisdom to heart.

“She told me to be humble no matter what,” related Christi, “Pero ang pinakanatutunan ko sa kanya is to treat everyone equally. ‘Yung respect na ibibigay ko sa pinakamattaas na tao, dapat ganun din sa lahat.

“In this industry everyone na ma-me-meet ay makaka help, because maliit lang ang industry and in the long run, makakatrabaho ko rin sila.

“Tsaka, she told me to always pray, kasi iba pag guided ka.”

“Teka, Teka, Teka” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Deezer. The music video is on Star Music’s YouTube Channel.
