IMMIGRATION agents recently arrested a Chinese woman wanted for alleged involvement in a pyramiding investment scam in her country.

BI-Fugitive Search Unit Acting Chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Liu Jing was arrested last May 19 at her residence in a subdivision in Biñan, Laguna on the strength of a mission order from Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco, who issued the order on the request of Chinese authorities.

The Chinese government had canceled Liu’s passport, making her an undocumented alien in the country.

Sy said Liu is also an overstaying alien as records showed that she arrived here as a tourist on December 31, 2019 and never left since then.

Liu is a subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Public Security Bureau in Yongjian District of Handan City in Hubei province, China on May 12, 2021.

She was accused of allegedly organizing and operating pyramid investment schemes through a foreign currency exchange platform that victimized more than 300,000 Chinese victims whose combined losses amounted to more than $2.5 million.

Liu is detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.

Last year, 1,339 foreigners were deported by the BI, with Chinese topping the list with 1,104.

Majority of the deportees were found to have violated immigration laws, including overstaying, violating the conditions of their stay, and being undesirable aliens.
