TWO individuals, including a Chinese, were convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by a Pangasinan court for engaging in human trafficking through the “mail order bride scheme.”

Aside from imprisonment, Branch 57 of the San Carlos City Regional Trial Court also ordered Li Chun Rong and Violeta Aquino to pay a fine of P1 million and pay the victim P400,000 in damages.

The case stemmed from information provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs to the National Bureau of Investigation-International Airport Investigation Division regarding the repatriation of the victim who was rescued in China.

Lai remains at large, with DFA coordinating with its Chinese counterparts to arrest him.
