OPERATIVES of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) have arrested a Chinese businessman in Iloilo City who threatened to upload a sex video with his former girlfriend, a Filipina, on social media if she would not sleep with him anew.

The ACG announced yesterday the arrest of the suspect, identified as Jack Liu, 31, in an entrapment operation at a lodge in Molo District in Iloilo City last October 12.

Lt. Col. Artemio Ricabo, officer-in-charge of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 6 (RACU 6), said the victim ended her relationship with the suspect last August due to the latter’s alleged abusive behavior and some misunderstandings.

“The suspect, not wanting to end their relationship, started threatening the victim that he will spread their sex video if she leaves him,” said Ricabo.

Ricabo said the victim initially doubted the existence of the video and ignored her former lover’s threat. But last October 12, Liu sent the video to a friend of the victim.

“(The) suspect also threatened (the) victim of exposing the explicit videos online if she does not agree to meet up and sleep with him in a given lodge,” said Ricabo.

The victim sought the help of the ACG, leading to the arrest of Liu on the night of October 12 at the lodge during an entrapment operation.

ACG operatives, augmented by Iloilo City policemen, followed the victim as soon as she entered a room at the lodge, where they found Liu naked.

Liu was charged with grave coercion, under the Revised Penal Code, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.

ACG director Brig. Gen. Joel Doria commended the personnel of RACU 6 and Iloilo City for a job well done, adding the victim’s timely reporting of the crime made possible the immediate arrest of the suspect.

“We are going to further intensify our campaign against cybercriminals under the new administration (of President Marcos Jr.) to ensure people are safe from opportunists in cyberspace,” said Doria.
