A CEBUANA beauty queen and her Spanish boyfriend were arrested by the police for violating the enhanced community quarantine in Moalboal town in Cebu on Sunday afternoon, police reported on Monday.
Cebu provincial police director Col. Roderick Mariano identified them as Maria Sesaldo Gigante, 26, who was crowned the 2017 Binibining Cebu Charity, and Javier Filosa Castro, 25.
Reports said policemen initially flagged down the car of the couple, both residents of Cebu City, at a checkpoint in Moalboal town. The two reportedly told lawmen they were on their way to Alegre town to distribute relief goods.
Mariano said the two were advised not to roam around, particularly in beaches and resorts, due to the coronavirus disease or COVID-19. He said they were also told to proceed directly to their destination.
However, Mariano said, the two proceeded to the Panagsama Beach in Barangay Basdiot in Moalboal town where they were arrested at around 5:30 p.m. while swimming and drinking liquor, in violation of the quarantine protocols.
“They disobeyed the instructions not to roam around, particularly beaches and resorts in Moalboal due to COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mariano.
Mariano said the two were brought to the Moalboal police station. Apart from the ECQ guidelines violation, the two are facing charges of disobedience to an agent or person in authority.
