THE Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday joined the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) in calling on all archdioceses and dioceses in the country to join the global observation of “Red Wednesday” tomorrow, November 29.
In a video message, CBCP President Bishop Pablo David called on all parishes and religious institutions to participate in the annual activity for the persecuted and oppressed Christians worldwide.
“Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, once again, I just want to remind you that we are observing our annual Red Wednesday this year 2023 on November 29th. This is our annual remembrance of the suffering Church and persecuted Christians worldwide,” said David.
“We believe that the local Church journeys with the persecuted and oppressed Christians in need and embraces their experiences,” he added.
Earlier, the ACN Philippines called on all Church institutions to transform the themes of their establishments into red during the event.
Similarly, it urged the faithful to wear red when they attend the event tomorrow.
“Red Wednesday” is an initiative launched in 2015 by ACN, a Catholic charity organization that supports suffering and persecuted Christians.
Come 2017, a number of dioceses in the Philippines started joining the global campaign.
In January 2020, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) institutionalized the annual celebration of “Red Wednesday” in all dioceses of the Philippines.
