THE Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has released commemorative coins in celebration of the 500 Years of Christianity (500 YOC) in the country.
A report of the CBCP News said the release of an “official coin,” which was made in collaboration with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, “was a way to fittingly commemorate the milestone in the Church’s history.”
It was back in 2021 when the Philippines celebrated the 500th year of the introduction of Christianity in the country by the Spanish. Some of the planned events, however, were pushed back to early 2022 due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The coin’s design at the obverse side features the country’s first Easter Mass on the island of Limasawa in Southern Leyte province. On the other side, the coin bears the 500YOC official logo featuring the first baptism in the Philippines and the theme of the celebration “Gifted to Give.”
The CBCP said the commemorative coin has a diameter of 34 mm, is made of Nordic gold, and has a frosted background with mirror-finished design.
